What if I want to volunteer with friends, family or co-workers?

Volunteering on an Operation Red Nose drive team can be an incredible life experience for you and your friends, family and/or co-workers. Working in a team of three, you might as well pair up with the people you know the best!

The online signup form lets volunteers know how much help we need each operation night. When volunteers add their names, we know who and how many people to expect on those nights. The order you sign up is not significant. We form our teams ‘on the fly’ when you check in at Headquarters. Our Greeters will check you in and help form your team. If you and your friend(s) want to work together, you simply fill out the same team information sheet.  It’s that easy!

Coming on your own or with one friend? No problem. We’ll pair you with one or two more people to form your drive team so you can make new friends.

Please Include an Email on your Volunteer Application

We confirm all volunteer applications by email after we receive the 'all clear' on your Criminal Record Check. If we don't have your email address, we can't reach you! We use Constant Contact to reach out to our volunteers. If you opt out of receiving those emails, we cannot email anything to you, including the confirmation or shift reminders, according to Canada's Anti-Spam legislation.

Please include your email address in your neatest and tidiest handwriting on your application so we can get this critical bit of information to you.

Our email program filters out duplicate email addresses. That means if you and your friend use the same email address on your applications, only one of you will get a confirmation email. To make sure you get the volunteer information you need, please provide your unique email address.

Join the wave to safer roads this winter with Operation Red Nose!

Our volunteers dedicate their time on cold winter nights to help make sure those enjoying the Holidays get home and make the streets safe for everyone.  The reasons people come to volunteer are varied. Perhaps they:

  • Lost a loved one to drinking and driving
  • Want to keep our streets safe
  • Enjoy meeting new people; fellow volunteers and clients
  • But most of all; everyone just wants to help

You may finish your shift a little tired, BUT, we guarantee it will be the most rewarding night of your life.

Our volunteer drive teams offer a very unique service to the community.  We are the only organization that volunteers to drive people home in their own vehicles for FREE.  One simple call from a client and a three-member drive team is dispatched.  When the drive team reaches the pick-up location, two of the team members drive the client and their friends home in the client's vehicle.  The third team member follows closely behind in the team escort vehicle to the client's drop-off location.  Once they arrive and the client is home safe and sound, the team reunites in the escort vehicle and they are off to their next ride.

Volunteers are welcome and needed each and every operational night. Now, we don't expect you to be there every night, but we do need you to commit to a full shift when you volunteer. The telephone lines open at 9:00 pm and stay open until 3:00 am. Drive teams stay out on the road until all clients are home safely.  Once all the rides are complete, teams return to headquarters and head home for some much deserved sleep.

If you fall somewhere between the ages of 18 and 80ish, you are the right person to volunteer with Operation Red Nose. All volunteers involved are required to submit a volunteer application and agree to a Criminal Record Check (CRC). Operation Red Nose will request a CRC from the Winnipeg Police Service on your behalf. The Winnipeg Police Service, a partner in this program, completes all CRC's at no charge to you. For obvious reasons, if you are driving, you need a valid driver's license. Don't worry if you don't have one, we can still use your help as a Navigator who travels in the client's car.

Come with a couple of friends or family members to form your own team. Or, come on your own or plus one. We'll pair you up with another volunteer or two to make a team of three.

When we Receive your Application at Operation Red Nose Headquarters:
